To UMFCCI
The
Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry
(UMFCCI) was founded in 1919 as the Burmese Chamber
of Commerce and upgraded as a federation in 1999 in line with
the adoption of the market-oriented economic policy.
At the apex of the Chambers and Associations in the
country,the UMFCCI stands as a national level non-governmental
organization representing and safeguarding the interest of
private business sector. It is dedicated to fulfilling
the needs of private sector by providing various services
such as human
|
resourcedevelopment
training, training in commercial education, management and accounting,
providingtrade information,
business facilitating services, business matching and consultancy
services, organizing delegations for trade fairs,
exhibitions, seminars and study tours and other services as
and when required by the private sector.
Another important role of UMFCCI is acting
as a bridge between the State and the private sector. This role
is made
possible by the fact that there is a vast network of chambers
and associations affiliated to the UMFCCI. Moreover, with the
increasing membership strength, UMFCCI has become more influential
over the business community. In the international
arena, UMFCCI is a member of the Paris-based International Chamber
of Commerce (ICC) and the ASEAN Chamber of
Commerce and Industry (ASEAN-CCI), the (BIMST-EC),Greater Mekong
Subregion Business Forum (GMS-BF), Joint
Economic Quadrangle Committee (JEQC) and it supports and follows
the principles of competition, reduction of trade
barriers and facilitation of international trade.
Also, UMFCCI assumed the Presidency of ASEAN-CCI
in July 2002 and had taken over the Chairmanshiip of Greater
Mekong Sungegion Business Forum (GMSBF) since October 2003.
