An advisor to the Peace Commission, U Hla Maung Shwe has been an important contributor to both the Myanmar peace process and the country’s economy. He currently serves as secretary of the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC), chaired by State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
His recent contributions include involvement in the National Ceasefire Accord formulation and the Union Peace Conference. Previously, he was a special advisor at the Myanmar Peace Center and he was a member of the former president’s socioeconomic advisory council.
U Hla Maung Shwe is the founder of the Myanmar Shrimp Association. He also was a vice-president to the Myanmar Rice Federation, the Myanmar Fisheries Federation and the Myanmar Hoteliers Association. He has contributed to the UMFCCI since 2000 and was a vice-president in the previous term.
